WATERCOLOR SKINTONES
A FORMULA & AN ART
A course designed to give you practical, repeatable skills - teaching you not only how to paint realistic skin tones, but how to approach any portrait with confidence.
With over 10 years of experience painting watercolor portraits, I have found the patterns and techniques that help me create vibrant and realistic portraits and gathered them here for YOU.
This course is just as much about training your eye to see the “hidden” colors in skin tones as it is about training your hand to paint them. The process of creating portraits is what I truly love most, even more than the outcome - and that’s what I hope to give to you here.
What You’ll Get
If that sounds like A LOT, it’s because it IS.
This course is packed with everything from vein tones to final details. We fully paint 9 faces together (with MORE coming), and cover the skin tone formulas need to achieve 4 different skin types - Caucasian, Asian, African and Middle Eastern.
We also cover nuance features like faces with tattoos, beard hair, wrinkles, complex lighting - and even dip our toes into some textiles as well.
When I say this course is full of everything I’ve learned in 10 years, I mean it.
Oh, and did I mention the whole course has BEAUTIFUL, ambient background music - written and recorded by my husband? It’s a treat.

Hey there, friend.
It is truly wild that this course is a reality, and that you’re here thinking of joining us. I have had this dream for so long.
If you don’t know me, I’m Grace. I’m a mom of 2 boys, a wife and a portrait painter on the side.
I’ve been painting watercolor portraits since 2016 and have only fallen deeper in love with the process of brining faces to life through this medium since then.
But this isn’t all about me - I really hope to get to know YOU through this course as well. So don’t be a stranger. Come say hey - and let me know if you have any questions.
Course FAQ
-
Yes and No.
If you have never picked up a watercolor brush, this may not be the course for you. But, if you are familiar with the medium and are just new to the world of portraiture, then YES, this course can absolutely be a great fit for you.
-
No. I always want to be upfront with what this course is and is not. This course will teach you how to paint realistic skintones with watercolors. We will of course cover common shapes and features found in all faces, but if you want to learn to draw a face, there are plenty of courses that offer exactly that.
In this course, I encourage students to transfer their reference images to their paper however is easiest for them. I want you to feel the freedom to mess up and start over. And if you spend hours on your sketch, you may not feel that same freedom. So let’s just focus on painting for now.

This course will answer questions like
“Why do you start with that blue layer?”
“Is it necessary?”
“How do I make my portraits vibrant and life like?”
“What are the things most people miss or get wrong when painting a face?”
“What colors do I need to achieve x skin tone?”
